At ECG On-Demand, cardiac physiologists are at the heart of everything we do, yet to the wider healthcare industry, their role remains a mystery.
Cardiac physiologists are involved in the majority of cardiac diagnoses, yet remain an invisible profession within healthcare.
Cardiac physiologists typically spend 3 years at university, with further training completed whilst ‘on the job’ in fields such as echocardiography and cardiac rhythm management. A cardiac physiologist can work in a variety of settings, from acute hospitals to community diagnostic centres (CDCs), as well as private hospitals and companies such as ECG On-Demand.
Cardiac physiology generally encompasses the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease through techniques such as echocardiographic assessment of the heart’s function, investigations into the flow of blood around the cardiac arteries and assessment of the performance of the cardiac conduction system responsible for each and every heartbeat.
Our cardiac physiologists come from a variety of backgrounds and geographies within the NHS. We have paediatric specialists and electrophysiology specialists, as well as those who have worked in acute cardiology and echocardiography. This amalgamation of skills is what makes our team so special.
ECG On-Demand realises the potential in our cardiac physiologists and as a result, 3 of our cardiac physiologists now form our commercial team. We are proud of our unique standpoint in the industry as a company providing cardiac diagnostics, managed and implemented by a commercial team who are experts within the sector. By having experts in the field, we are able to understand the idiosyncrasies of the cardiac diagnostics market.
As a team, we hope that we can support our NHS colleagues in taking the often difficult decision to outsource cardiac diagnostics to balance patient and workforce demand.
